Dr. Jon Franklin

Dr. Jon Franklin

Dr. Franklin: Dr. Jon Franklin, a native of Wilson County, graduated cum laude from Cumberland University (Class of 1989) and the Southern College of Optometry (Class of 1993). Since graduating from SCO in 1993, Dr. Franklin has practiced optometry in Mount Juliet, where he opened Franklin Family Eye Care in 1994.

He has received the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians’ Presidential Citation Award. An avid sports fan, Dr. Franklin has a particular interest in sports vision and works with local athletic teams, including those from Cumberland University, conducting vision screenings and fitting patients with sports-specific vision enhancements. He played baseball and basketball for the Lebanon Blue Devils and baseball for Cumberland University from 1985 to 1989. During his time at Cumberland, he earned the Lindsey Donnell Award for academic and athletic excellence and the Most Valuable Player award in 1988. He played on the university’s first World Series baseball team in 1988 and was inducted into the Cumberland University Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1993, he received the Nova Award for academic excellence at the Southern College of Optometry.

Dr. Franklin is married to Dr. Karen O. Franklin, a licensed clinical pharmacist. They have two children, Erin and Andrew. He is the son of Jerry and Thersa Franklin of Lebanon, Tennessee. In his free time, Dr. Franklin enjoys coaching his children’s athletic teams, reading, and watching sports. He also raises cattle on his family’s century farm in Grant, located in Smith County, Tennessee. An active member of the local Lions Club,

Dr. Franklin is dedicated to providing vision care to individuals without the financial means to access it. He conducts vision screenings for Cumberland athletes and is an enthusiastic supporter of Cumberland University baseball. Dr. Franklin and his family attend Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tennessee. He is also a member of the Tennessee Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the West Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Franklin is committed to providing excellent eye care to all his patients.

Dr. Thomas A. Roberson

Dr. Thomas A. Roberson

Dr. Roberson: Dr. Thomas A. Roberson practiced optometry in Lebanon for 34 years. He initially established his practice at University Medical Center Hospital, where he remained until 1998. He then became one of the four founding partners of The Eye Center, which was later sold to Vanderbilt.

A father of three and grandfather of four, Dr. Roberson is an avid motorcyclist and a professional photographer. He owns several motorcycles, including a custom chopper made in Hendersonville. Additionally, he raises horses and llamas on his 20-acre farm in Lebanon, humorously referring to his llamas as “lawn ornaments.”

Dr. Roberson has also participated in four medical mission trips to Haiti with a team of 25 healthcare professionals. During these trips, the team identifies patients’ vision issues, which range from needing eyeglasses to requiring eye surgery. The medical team arranges and provides the necessary care. Each year, approximately 1,500 patients are screened during the week-long mission.

Dr. Thomas A. Roberson

Dr. Michael Bingham


Dr. Bingham: Dr. Michael Bingham grew up in North Carolina, where he played basketball in high school. He attended Furman University in Greenville, SC, where he met his wife, Kelsey (a Nashville native), and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Afterward, they moved to Memphis, where he attended the Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Bingham has been caring for patients’ eyesight in the Middle Tennessee area for over ten years. He specializes in primary eye care, providing comprehensive exams to monitor and preserve overall eye health. He has a particular interest in contact lenses and enjoys fitting custom lenses for patients with corneal irregularities.

​​​​​​​Dr. Bingham and his wife Kelsey have lived in the Nashville area since 2015. They have two children, David and Ruth, as well as a black lab named Lou. While much of his spare time is spent with his kids, Dr. Bingham also loves cooking daily and enjoys competing in triathlons.
